TOC in Healthcare Webinar series: Extraordinary times call for extraordinary solutions!
Tell a Friend About This EventTell a Friend

The authors of Smash the Bottleneck are sponsoring a series of FREE webinars to create awareness in the healthcare community about the Theory of Constraints (TOC). TOC can significantly impact patient flow in emergency departments, inpatient units, and primary care and specialty clinics. Unfortunately, many healthcare practitioners do not know that TOC exists. Let's make progress to fill that gap. Please help us to spread the word!

When: Wednesday, August 26th, 2020

Extraordinary times call for extraordinary solutions: Theory of Constraints, a method whose time has come to improve patient flow in hospitals and clinics

The first webinar features Gijs Andrea who has implemented TOC in several hospitals in the UK and the Netherlands.

Join Gijs Andrea, founding partner at International House of TOC, Netherlands, to:

  • learn the devastating impact of local efficiencies and "waste reduction" projects
  • examine the effect of inter-dependencies in combination with variation as the cause of stagnation of flow
  • understand why instead of trying to maximize utilization of every resource, organizations should focus on flow of the system as a whole
  • recognize the existence of the one element in the organization, be it the medical doctor, the operating room, or the clinical ward, that is the bottleneck in the system
  • discover that maximizing the throughput on this bottleneck and even improving only this resource can improve patient care in terms of availability, timeliness and quality
  • explore case studies of these principles in practice

August 26th, 2020 at 1:00 PM EDT

For participants who cannot attend, we will provide a recording.  Registration information and other details are available in the link below.

Meet the presenter: Gijs Andrea

Gijs is a founding partner of the International House of TOC (iHOT), an organization dedicated to education and implementation of the Theory of Constraints. He is working closely together a number of other TOC Experts for solution development, education and implementation.

Gijs became aware of TOC some 35 years ago, when Eli Goldratt introduced his first business novel The Goal. Gijs has achieved his MSc TOC Healthcare Management at the Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

Gijs, a TOC educated and trained specialist in patient-flow, is playing a leading role in the introduction of the Theory of Constraints into the healthcare system in The Netherlands. Gijs has worked on many TOC implementations, including Maasstad Ziekenhuis (The Netherlands), St Antonius Hospital (The Netherlands), Nij Smellinghe (The Netherlands), Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (UK) and University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UK).

His newest development is the introduction of TOC in service industry. Together with 3 of his colleagues he wrote two books on that subject: The Servicefactory and The Projectfactory (only available in Dutch at this moment), which describe the general TOC solution for service companies and the way to implement it.
